Kazakhstan's favourite reporter Borat, aka Sacha Baron Cohen, hosted the 12th MTV Europe Music Awards, this time at the Pavilhão Atlântico, Lisbon. He managed to offend everyone, especially his friend Madonna, and was subsequently banned from most after show parties.
The show was opened by a leotard-clad Madonna, who exploded from a shiny disco ball to the tune "Hung Up". New dance act Pussycat Dolls also performed as did The Black Eyed Peas. Robbie Williams took to the stage with "Tripping" and the Foo Fighters performance was cut short and interrupted by Borat during "D.O.A.".
The event featured a PSYC[1] backstage video chat hosted by Skin of Skunk Anansie.[2][3]
Bob Geldof was awarded the Free Your Mind Award for his tireless campaign against world hunger.
The presenters list included Anastacia, Jared Leto, John Legend, Sugababes and Brittany Murphy who stood in for Borat while he reported from the toilet. The following press coverage labelled the 2005 EMAs the best show ever.
